Introduction

Supported by an AUD 5 million investment from the Australian Government from 2022-23 to 2026-27, the Trade and Gender Equality Incubator (TGEI) is an initiative under the Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) program.

TGEI’s mission is to advance gender equality within trade with ASEAN Member States by piloting innovative approaches and establishing a comprehensive evidence base for policymakers on pathways towards trade systems that better guarantee equitable economic opportunities for all genders.

We aim for lasting impact of TGEI-funded projects, ensuring their continuation, replication, or scalability beyond the duration of the RT4D program.

TGEI welcomes partnerships with diverse entities, spanning the private sector, academia, government agencies, women’s business networks, and marginalised groups, promoting a shared commitment to gender equality for all.

Projects which aim to achieve or support systemic changes for gender equality for all.  Systemic change means that change must be fundamental and affects how the whole system functions.

Example: A nation-wide organisation reviews its policy to achieve gender equality and diversity in its recruitment, retention, and promotion. As a result, they improve their human resource system to collect and use sex-disaggregated statistics and other demographics (such as age, ethnic background, disability status, etc.) in recruitment, promotions, and resignations.

This enables them to identify potential instances of discrimination based on gender or other demographic factors. Additionally, they develop clear guidelines to safeguard the integrity of collecting and storing diversity data, encompassing factors like ethnicity, religion and disability.

If you are interested in accessing TGEI funding to support systemic changes, please contact the TGEI Lead at: mylinh.nguyen@regionaltrade4dev.org to discuss further.

We welcome any ideas to progress gender transformation in trade related policies, systems, and processes.

There is no scheduled call for proposals on a regular basis. We accept unsolicited concept notes after the initial meeting with the TGEI Lead. Proposal and concept note templates can be provided by the TGEI Lead.
